Life in the Digital Bubble

We live in the “digital bubble,” where smart devices, algorithms, AI assistants, and smartphones subtly influence how we interact with one another, live, and work. The main concepts from my book Life in the Digital Bubble are introduced in this series and are broken down into distinct, easy-to-understand layers that you can apply to your own life, your family, and your company.

If you’re new to this work, start with these two short stories.

A Walkman, a Dream… and a Wake-Up Call

A Walkman, a dream, and a moment of realization transformed my perspective on technology, which is why I began discussing the digital bubble.

“Why are you always on your phone instead of talking to me?”

The conversation with my daughter compelled me to reconsider the use of phones, the importance of attention, and our approach to showing up for those we care about.

The Anatomy of the Digital Bubble—6 Layers

These six short videos take you through the key layers of the digital bubble, from your phone to workplace management systems to future gadgets.

Layer 1 – Smartphones: The Nerve Center

How your phone became the control center of your day and the entry point to the digital bubble

Layer 2 – Virtual Assistants: The Thing That Knows You Best

From your fridge to your phone, your devices listen, learn, and quietly reshape your routines.

Layer 3 – Social Media & Algorithms: The Filters That Shape Reality

How algorithms decide what you see, what you feel, and what you believe is normal.

Layer 4 – Workplace AI: The New Workforce Partner

AI that helps you work, measures you at work, and one day may replace parts of your work.

Layer 5 – Augmented Reality: Redirecting Choices in the Physical World

AR does not just show you the world; it guides how you move through it.

Layer 6 – Wearables & Implants: When the Body Becomes the Device

When technology moves from being around you to living on and inside you.

Winning in the Digital Bubble

Inside the Digital Bubble: Life in 2035 and 2055

What will everyday life really look like in 2035 and 2055?

This 16-episode series explores how work, love, education, identity, and society will change as AI, automation, and immersive technologies move from the margins into the center of our lives

Each short video is based on my book Life in the Digital Bubble. Each episode poses a daring question about the future and explains its implications for you, your family, and your job so you can be ready.

If you feel that doing nothing is not an option, this series is for you.

E01 – Will AI Take Over Your Mind?

In labs today, AI is already able to read brain signals. Refusing a smartphone could be the same as refusing a brain upgrade by 2055. By 2035, you might be able to scroll with your mind. What happens to free will when we directly connect our thoughts to the digital bubble?

E02 – Your City Will Feel Your Fear

Cities are starting to read moods through cameras and sensors. By 2035, traffic advertising and policing could adapt to your stress in real time. By 2055, who decides how far emotion tracking in public spaces is allowed to go?

E03 – Will Your Children Love Alexa More Than You?

AI companions that listen without growing weary are already a part of children’s childhood. They may be better understood by these systems than by their parents by 2055. When an AI feels more available and patient than you, what happens to family ties?

E04 – Will We Even Shop Ourselves Anymore?

AI will make most of your purchases by 2035, despite the current package overload. By 2055, it might be able to anticipate your mood and deliver what you “need” before you ask. How much of our identities remains our own if algorithms make the decisions?

E05 – Will We Even Travel Anymore?

We chase Instagram moments and flights these days. By 2055, you might reserve experiences rather than travel, remaining at home while AI replicates locations, people, and feelings on your behalf. Does it matter that you never left if it feels genuine?

E06 – Will You Ever Commute Again?

Although working remotely seems contemporary today, by 2055, you may be able to enter fully immersive offices from your living room. Your commute becomes a thought, AI improves every interaction, and your team appears all around you. Can work ever truly be considered complete if it is present everywhere?

E07 – What If We Do Not Need to Work Anymore?

By 2035, digital twins could handle most of your daily workload. Millions of jobs might disappear by 2055, and basic income might become the norm. Do we feel liberated or more lost than ever when we don’t need to work to survive?

E08 – Will Schools Even Need Teachers Anymore?

AI tutors can already personalize learning in ways teachers cannot. By 2035 classrooms may be hybrid, and by 2055 education could happen in fully immersive worlds with AI mentors. What remains uniquely human in teaching and learning?

E09 – Will a Degree Still Mean Anything?

The idea of “study once, work forever” is becoming outdated. Employers may value skills over degrees by 2035, and by 2055, ongoing AI-driven upskilling may be more important than any degree. In that world, who prevails and who is left behind

E10 – Who Will Get Left Behind in the Digital Age?

There won’t be equal access to data, skills, and tools. The disparity between those who can and cannot use the digital bubble will be enormous by 2035. By 2055, entire societies may be shaped by this new divide. What duties do modern leaders have?

E11 – Will Outrage Replace Activism?

Outrage is more rewarded on social media than solutions. By 2035, activism might resemble ongoing online storms, and by 2055, algorithms might exacerbate division because they keep us interested. In a system that makes money off of conflict, is it still possible to create meaningful change?

E12 – Will We Still Believe the News?

Deepfakes and synthetic media are already here. By 2035 it may be difficult to trust any video or quote you see. By 2055, AI could generate entire information environments. If nothing can be verified easily, what happens to democracy and trust?

E13 – Will Doctors Still Know You?

AI is already faster than any doctor at analyzing scans, lab results, and patterns. By 2035, a system may be the first to diagnose you, and by 2055, an AI that knows every heartbeat may be your “doctor.” What does that mean for human care?

E14 – Will Health Be Only for the Wealthy?

Although health technology is rapidly advancing, not everyone can afford it. Only a select few may have access to cutting-edge therapies and neural advancements by 2035. There may be a clear division between those who can improve themselves and those who cannot by 2055.

E15 – Will Anyone Still Cook?

In smart kitchens, AI can order ingredients, prepare meals, and cook them. Many people might not need to touch a stove by 2035. By 2055, the creation of cuisine may prioritize performance and mood over tradition. What would happen to culture and family customs if we stopped cooking?

E16 – Falling in Love With an AI – Would It Be Real?

By 2035, AI companions may already understand your preferences, histories, and emotional patterns. By 2055, some people may build deep relationships with systems that never get tired or bored. If the feelings are real to you, does it matter that the other is not human?
